Screen-free P.O.W.E.R. activities grow thriving brains!

What do kids REALLY need to grow and thrive? Often, the simplest things are best for building the most important skills!
Technology is everywhere and constantly changes, but what kids need to develop remains the same - plenty of play, outdoor time, responsibility as they grow, engaging with other people in real life, reading, and being read to!
Screen time often disrupts these crucial activities and many parents and caregivers are simply unaware of the consequences.
We created the Let's Grow Brain P.O.W.E.R. program as a resource to start the conversation about kids' brain development and to empower families to prioritize the activities that help GROW brains.
" The resources and ideas in this kit are valuable in helping families, policymakers, advocates, and teachers begin to recognize the importance of play as a biological necessity for healthy development. Not only do Kailan and Katie share ideas that increase play and do away with screens, but they also back up their activities with research. "
Deb Lawrence, President of International Play Association (IPA) USA
Coordinator of Screen-Free Week
How it works:
After discussing how kids can grow their brains through P.O.W.E.R. activities, celebrate screen-free fun with a flower garden wall or tree in a classroom, school office or hallway, or community area.
Children (or families) can write or draw a P.O.W.E.R. activity they've enjoyed on a petal or tree leaf to add to the display.
This resource also includes:
Resources for the organizer
Patterns and a variety of signs
Information for caregivers
Activities for kids of all age levels
Screen time will be low if you focus on what helps the brain grow!
" Let's Grow Brain P.O.W.E.R. helped us engage kids and families in our school in a positive discussion about screen time! We used it in the fall, and are using it again this spring to organize a family event. "
